FESTIVAL REVIEW: Boots and Hearts 2016!

This year, Boots and Hearts Music Festival celebrated its 5th anniversary!

Once again held at Burl's Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, the festival kicked off on a Thursday evening with a stellar line up for the kick off party. Usually reserved for Canadian talent, this year's kickoff party featured south-of-the-border headliner Jake Owen, who's currently tearing up the country charts with his latest hit, American Country Love Song. Not that Boots is forgetting about our homegrown heroes, Meghan Patrick, Tebey and Emerson Drive, followed by a late night dance party, also played the kick off party. The lineup for this year's kick off party was really impressive and set the tone of the entire weekend, solidifying Boots top spot of festival's of it's kind in Canada and giving just a taste of the excitement to come!
The 5th time must be a charm, because this year, Boots and Hearts had no interruptions  and curve balls thrown their way! The weather cooperated - I don't think we saw any rain over the entire weekend, which I'm pretty sure is a first for this festival. Rain gear stayed towed away in cars and none of the sets got postponed or canceled....a welcome surprise to both festival goers and organizers I'm sure! For the most part, festival goers seemed well behaved and lowkey this year. I didn't even see any penises peeing on fences - maybe our male concertgoers finally learned to use the portapotties...(and they say chivalry is dead!) and I didn't hear of any over the top antics this year either. It took us five years to get here, but it looks like we've learned to behave ourselves! A+ everyone!

The festival continued on Friday where the real star power shone bright. Early in the day, we saw the likes of Tebey, Cory Marquardt, Lindsay Broughton, David James, the Reklaws, Autumn Hill and Chase Bryant take the stage.
As the afternoon turned to evening, Tim Hicks took the main stage and Cam closed out the performances for the day on the Front Porch Stage. We have to note that we LOVED Cam. What a performer...she was amazing. This was our first time watching her, she sang effortlessly and honestly and really captured her audience. She is also seriously bubbly and adorable! Cam is definitely She's Gone Country approved. And if the crowd that gathered by the Front Porch Stage was any indication, Cam is also Boots and Hearts approved!

Next up was one of our old favourites (see, Faster Horses Festival 2014 and Boots and Hearts 2014), SAM HUNT! Sam was definitely our highlight of the weekend. Wow! He's amazing. We knew he had something special when we saw him back in 2014 playing side stages, and it's hard to imagine it's only been two short years since then. Sam Hunt took the main stage at 7pm on Friday and he seriously rocked the house. Most of the ladies attending the weekend's festivities made a point to get over to the main stage to watch Sam Hunt, and even losing a toenail couldn't stop his fans from smiling throughout his performance (For real, this really happened. We watched a girl walk with a bloodied flip flop to first aid to return 5 mins later with a bandaged big toe and a smile on her face ready to get back at it. Yikes!). He was my #1 pick of the weekend and I can't wait to see him again! Sam Hunt is an extremely energetic performer, constantly moving around on stage - at one point, Sam even braved the crowd, leaving the protected backstage area to run through the entire crowd (nervous security in tow!). Sam Hunt is truly adorable - totally handsome and charismatic, and he's not just a pretty face. He sang hit after hit and also did some amazing covers, showing off his songwriting chops (Keith Urban's Cop Car and Billy Currington's We Are Tonight are just a couple of the hits Hunt has written for others). Needless to say, it was great to see Sam Hunt return to the Boots and Hearts stage this year.

Dierks Bentley took the main stage to close out the evening on Friday, playing hits from his latest album, Black. Dierks is also a Boots and Hearts veteran, playing the festival back in 2013 when he was promoting his Riser album. Bentley made his time in Canada count - on a day off the night before, he played a surprise show at local country bar, Boots and Bourbon, with the James Barker Band, much to the delight of the fans in attendance (She's Gone Country was there!) It was a pretty neat experience for both fans and I'm sure Bentley himself, playing for a small intimate crowd of 100 to over 25,000 the next night!
Saturday afternoon got off to a slow start - the campers took a little while to emerge from their tents after what was probably a long night of partying on Friday! Kicking off the festivities on Saturday were the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artists Showcase, Madeline Merlo, JoJo Mason, Miss Boots and Hearts, Raquel Cole and Great Big Sea frontman Alan Doyle with his band the Beautiful Gypsies. A pretty solid afternoon lineup!
Rolling out the evening festivities was Aaron Pritchett, who closed out the Front Porch Stage performances on Saturday. Aaron Pritchett is also one of our faves - he is sweet, charming and funny...and has an impressive roster of hits he played for the crowed. We recently had the opportunity to interview Aaron Pritchett. Check it out here!
Up next on the main stage was Canadian talent, Dean Brody. It was interesting to see the crowds start arriving in thrones, finally mustering up the energy to get back at it again and venture out of the campgrounds by early evening!! Brody played all of his hits for the crowd before the evening's headliner, Blake Shelton took the stage. Shelton's career is on fire right now and many were hoping that his new girlfriend, Gwen Stefani might make an appearance. Stefani is also currently on tour and played a show in Toronto just a couple of days before! Alas, their schedules did not link up enough for the couple to sing their duet at Boots and Hearts! Blake Shelton is also a Boots and Hearts veteran, playing the festival back in 2014.
Sunday kicked off with performances from Jordan McIntosh, Jason Benoit, River Town Saints, Jason McCoy, Lindsay Ell, Dylan Scott, Jason Blaine and Diamond Rio.
Closing the festival was Chase Rice and 2012 Boots and Hearts veteran, Tim McGraw!
-Sweet Corn!! OMG this is my #1 highlight from the festival this year. Is that sad? It was so good I don't even care. Hope to see this back next year cause if so, you'll know where to find me!
-Freezies. Ok I'm beginnig to see a recurring theme here with my priorities. But come on.  25-30,000 people out in a big field in the sun for 5 days and see just how popular your freezie stand is. Whoever thought of this is a genius, especially at $3 a pop.
- Line ups this year weren't an issue, at least for my Boots and Hearts experience. Easy in and out, no big lineups for any concessions. A win!
-The weather!! Organizers can't control mother nature, so we've gotta give her a big thumbs up for this one!
-Organization. This year, Boots and Hearts was pretty smooth sailing for us. YAY!
-Sam Hunt!

-The musical lineup. Other than a couple of standouts, the lineup was pretty repetitive with not as many big names this year. While we LOOOVE our Canadian musicians and all the love they got this year, we can usually count on Boots and Hearts to bring all the big names to Canada. Its usually a great balance between Canadian and American artists, and this year, was very heavily Canadian...not that we're complaining, know.
-We missed the printed maps! It seems Republic Live decided to forgo printing the little Boots and Hearts booklets we've come to love in the past to drive more traffic to their app. We totally understand the reasons why they would do this, but nonetheless, I missed my souvenir map booklet!
-Cashless system. A pretty good idea, but we're putting this in lowlights due to the communication of this new feature, or lack thereof. This issue may not be the same for all festival-goers, I can really only speak for myself on this one, but I read through all materials sent to me to prep for the festival this year (ie: media packages), and was not aware that you couldn't use cash anywhere on site. This was slightly inconvenient as this miscommunication had us ping-ponging back and forth to load our wristbands after the fact. And when you really want a freezie and are about to get one, it's definitely disappointing to learn you have to leave empty handed, walk across the entire festival to the other side to get the finances sorted, then walk back. We'll definitely be better prepared for next year though!

Thanks to Boots and Hearts and Republic Live for having us once again!! We love our Boots and Hearts weekend and look forward to it every year!

Justin Moore took the party downtown with a triple shot of performances in Nashville to celebrate KINDA DON’T CARE (The Valory Music Co.), which continues to dominate the #1 spot on the iTunes Top Country Albums chart and took the #2 on the All Genre Albums chart upon release. Toasting with packed crowds at some of Music City’s famed honkytonks on Lower Broadway, he raised a glass to the new album at Honky Tonk Central, Rippy’s and Tootsies World Famous Orchid Lounge. Fans followed the “You Look Like I Need A Drink” singer as he made his way from one bar to the next, sharing drinks, stories and of course, new tunes. The hitmaker also served up previous #1 singles, including “Small Town USA,” “Point At You” and “Lettin’ The Night Roll.”

“We took three years to get this album just right and we’re so excited that it’s finally out,” shared Moore. “Thanks for coming out tonight Nashville!”

The string of stops moved to a local Waffle House, where select VIPs were treated to a late night meal and Moore hopping behind the counter to serve up signature noshes. KINDA DON’T CARE features his seventh Top 10 single “You Look Like I Need a Drink” and fresh songs like the title track and “More Middle Fingers” featuring Brantley Gilbert.

Multi-Grammy award winner and MCA Records Nashville recording artist Vince Gill celebrated his milestone 25thAnniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry® with two memorable shows ‪Saturday night, claiming “This is a pretty sweet night.” Gill, one of the Opry’s most beloved and frequent players, was inducted as an Opry member on August 10, 1991.

Gill celebrated the special night he claimed was “the best night ever” doing what he loves most- performing, collaborating and sharing the stage with family and close friends including Amy Grant, Rodney Crowell, Patty Loveless, The Time Jumpers, Ashley Monroe, Andrea Zonn, Bill Anderson, Jenny Gill, Paul Franklin, and Charlie Worsham. After opening the night with his classic hit “One More Last Chance,” an emotional Gill welcomed everyone saying, “This evening is filled with people I hold more than dear. They have made my entire life.”

Gill and friends had so much fun reminiscing and playing music that the first show ran almost an hour over its two-hour schedule, treating the audience to almost three hours of music. “Sorry we made you late,” Gill said to a packed audience at the top of the night’s second show. “We were having a blast in here.” The fun included both Amy Grant and Rodney Crowell joining in the ‪Saturday night tradition of dancing with the Opry Square Dancers.

Throughout the night, Gill’s friends and family told stories and reminisced. Daughter Jenny Gill told the audience of the time when she was in first grade and her dad finally got the call he had been waiting for– the Grand Ole Opry calling to invite him to make his Opry debut. However, he had to decline the long-awaited opportunity, saying he was already booked. He had promised Jenny he would accompany her on guitar on “You Are My Sunshine” for her school’s talent show. She remarked, “It’s a great thing they called him back, don’t you think?”

Longtime friend Patty Loveless said before the two performed Gill's iconic classics “When I Call Your Name,” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” “It’s always been an honor to sing with Vince Gill.

“Vince has truly become family to all of us at the Opry,” said Pete Fisher, Vice President and General Manager, Opry. “Like Mr. Acuff before him, his dressing room door is always open, and he’s often ready to pick one backstage and catch up with friends in the wings as well as to collaborate with them musically on the Opry stage.”

“It is obvious in watching clips from Vince’s Opry induction 25 years ago that Opry patriarch Roy Acuff was a big Vince Gill fan and that he was hoping Vince would help carry on the magic of the Opry for future generations,” added Fisher. “Though Roy died the next year, there is no doubt he would be proud tonight of all that Vince has accomplished and everything he has meant to Mr. Roy’s beloved show.”

With the camera lens so close it was reflected in his signature aviators, Eric Church spoke directly to his fans just minutes before taking the stage for his first of two solo shows at the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheater alerting the thousands watching via Facebook Live as well as the sold-out crowd of his plans to tour in 2017. He revealed that his North American 60+ city run, the aptly titled Holdin’ My Own Tour, will officially launch on Jan. 13, 2017 at Lincoln, Neb.’s Pinnacle Bank Arena and include stops in Chicago, Ill., Los Angeles, Calif., and will conclude with two nights at Nashville, Tenn.’s Bridgestone Arena in May.  For the first time ever, there will be no support act on this tour. Eric Church and the ECB will play two full sets with an intermission in between. In an effort to ensure his core fans get great tickets at face value, Church is revamping the pre-sale and on-sale process to eliminate scalpers from the equation.

“In this era where growing inequality seems to be the norm, we wanted to do everything within our power to put the advantage back in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system, and by extension our people,” said John Peets, Church’s manager. “It was important to us to invest time into evaluating and redesigning the ticket buying process and build the technology to level the playing field.”

Church and his team have developed a new fan club pre-sale system that will allow them to remove scalpers from the pre-sale process before it even happens. Church Choir members will pre-register for the fan club pre-sale prior to it starting. Once verified, fan club members will receive buy links via text message when the pre-sale starts. Scalpers that are found to be gaming the system and posing as real fans won’t receive the buy link at all.

Church has secured a larger allotment of fan club tickets than in the past so Church Choir members will have much better success buying tickets in the pre-sale.  The Church Choir pre-sale will be the ONLY pre-sale. There will be no venue, credit card or radio pre-sales.

As on past tours, Church will continue to cancel any and all orders found to be made by scalpers.  New for the Holdin’ My Own Tour, Church commissioned a proprietary technology that scrubs ticket purchases using up to 10 different data points and automatically flags orders made by scalpers.  Orders may be cancelled at any time and without warning.  Church cautions fans to stay away from the secondary market because it’s likely that tickets found there will be invalid by the time the show happens.

Finally, delivery of all ticket orders will be delayed until the days leading up to each show.  Church hopes that this will make it impossible for scalpers to complete their transactions.

By doing this – investing time and energy to create a more efficient and balanced model – the Church team is not only communicating directly to the fans the best source for face value tickets, but also building a model that protects consumers and can be adopted by the industry as a whole.

“The way this album came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me—directly and swiftly. What I didn’t anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little as this year was supposed to be spent writing.”
Church continues, “What this year’s open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows, down to the way they go on sale.”
Church’s announcement comes on the heels of his single, “Record Year,” from his album Mr. Misunderstood, hitting No. 1 Aug. 1 and in the middle of his two-night, sold-out stint at Red Rocks, one of his few 2016 performances.

Nashville, TN — Duet partners Chris Young and Cassadee Pope teamed up again to celebrate the chart-topping success of their RIAA Gold certified single, “Think Of You,” during a No. 1 party from Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame. Hundreds of music industry fans joined the pair, along with Young’s (BMI) co-writers Corey Crowder (ASCAP) and Josh Hoge (SESAC). “Think Of You” marks Young’s eighth single to hit the top of the charts and Pope’s very first No. 1 single as an artist.

During the festivities, Young was also surprised with the news that his latest album, I’m Comin’ Over, featuring back-to-back seventh and eighth No. 1 singles “I’m Comin’ Over” and “Think Of You,” has achieved RIAA Gold certification. The accolade is made even more special in that Young took his first turn as co-producer on this latest album, alongside Corey Crowder.

“One of my favorite things about ‘Think Of You’ is having Cassadee Pope on it, this song would not be the same without her," said Young. He addressed the room sharing “from the bottom of my heart, for this song and everything that is going on in my career, you change our lives on a daily basis and I'm truly blessed to get to do what I do."

Young and Pope will team up again next month as they embark on the fall leg of his headlining tour. Chris Young’s “I’m Comin’ Over Tour” will span 25 shows running September through the end of the year. CASE Construction Equipment will join the tour as an official sponsor. TRIO (Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris) Debut Lyric Video for Alternate Version of “Wildflowers”

Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris have premiered a new lyric video for an unreleased alternate version of “Wildflowers.” The Parton-penned track, which was originally released on their 1987 collaboration Trio, is featured on the upcoming three-CD set THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION

Parton, Ronstadt, and Harris have three careers unparalleled in music history. Together they have sold over 200 million albums worldwide and performed for decades in front of countless fans around the globe. It’s no surprise that when their three voices united to release their debut collaboration, the results were remarkable. The threesome released two albums together, Trio (1987) and Trio II (1999), which have combined to sell more than five million copies worldwide and win three Grammy® Awards.

Both of these classic albums have been newly remastered for a three-CD collection packed with rare and unreleased music. Produced by Harris, THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION will be available on September 9 for a list price of $29.98.

On the same date, a single-disc set will also be available entitled MY DEAR COMPANION: SELECTIONS FROM THE TRIO COLLECTION, featuring a mix of songs taken from the three-disc set, as will FARTHER ALONG, a double-LP set of all the bonus material from THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION. Trio II will also be released on vinyl for the first time.

Even though Parton, Ronstadt, and Harris began recording together in the 1970s, a full album proved elusive. When the stars aligned and the friends were finally able to record a full album, a powerhouse sound of country and Americana was born. The results were remarkable. Trio arrived in 1987; sold more than four million copies; won two Grammy Awards; and topped the country album chart for five consecutive weeks. Among the standout tracks are “To Know Him Is to Love Him,” “Wildflowers,” and “Farther Along.”

It would be more than a decade before the group released a follow-up, but when Trio II arrived in 1999 it did not disappoint. The album won a Grammy Award and peaked in the Top Five of the country album chart. It sold more than one million copies worldwide on the strength of tracks like “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?” the Carter family’s “Lover’s Return” and a cover of Neil Young’s “After The Gold Rush.”

The bonus disc is loaded with 20 songs, including alternate takes of album tracks like “I’ve Had Enough,” “Making Plans” and “My Dear Companion.” Also featured are 11 completely unreleased recordings from the trio spanning both album sessions including “Waltz Across Texas Tonight,” “Pleasant As May,” “Are You Tired of Me,” and the gospel standard “Softly And Tenderly.” Among the unreleased material is also an alternate version of “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?” featuring Parton on lead vocals and a stunning acapella version of “Calling All My Children Home.”
