She's Gone Country had the chance to catch up with Newfoundland-based singer-songwriter Jason Benoit!! Jason, talks about playing at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival this weekend, the Canadian country music scene and what people can expect from him next!
She's Gone Country: What is is about country music that really speaks to you?
Jason Benoit: I was raised on Country music. Living in a very small town in Newfoundland, we lived a country lifestyle doing things such as fishing and hunting and living a laidback way of life. Country music really speaks to me because I can relate to the lyrics and the melodies from growing up in the country.
SGC: How does it feel to have a supportive and thriving country music scene in Canada?
JB: It’s awesome that a country fan doesn’t care if you’re an established artist or brand new in the business, they will support good songs. This means that a brand new country artist can become popular quite quickly if they are releasing quality music that connects with the fans! I have been very blessed with the incredible support country radio and fans have been giving me so far!
SGC: What can people expect from you next?
JB: I’ve got a brand new single called “All Wanna Party” coming out on July 27th that I think country music fans will really dig. Also, I have my first full length album called “Waves” being released in the fall of 2016. I’ve been releasing singles up to this point and it’s awesome to finally see an album released for the fans.
SGC: What's on your iPod? Who have you been listening to lately that you think people should check out?
JB: You can actually find some Eminem, Nelly, and 50Cent hidden somewhere deep in the back of my iPhone haha. No Joke! But I mainly listen to a mix of new and old country .. George Jones, Hank Williams Jr, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and also some Luke bryan, Jason Aldean, and Chris Young!.. There’s a couple of great new country artist/acts in Canada that are really great such as River Town Saints, Meghan Patrick, and this new guy, Dan Davidson, who has a song out called “Found”.. It’s pretty awesome!
SGC: What are you most looking forward to at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival?
JB: 100% of the time I will always say the fans. The fans are what make performing at festivals so amazing. We release music to the fans and hope and pray the fans become connected to our songs. To see the fans sing along and enjoy themselves at country music festivals is the greatest thrill of a live performer’s career. On top of all that, performing at a top notch festival such as Cavendish Beach Music Fest is the icing on the cake. The folks at CBMF are all so professional and just all around good people, it makes my job easy. ;D
