REVIEW: Windy City Smokeout - She's Gone Country APPROVED!!!

We had the best time earlier this summer at the Windy City Smokeout!! Great food, great music, great views of the Chicago skyline – what more could you ask for?!?

The event takes place in a pretty neat location, underneath an underpass and has a really chill, intimate feel. It’s super laid back and super fun and like nothing we’ve ever experienced before. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention how well organized the entire event was. It was all so simple and stress free. And also, nice, clean bathrooms! For an outdoor festival, the Windy City Smokeout gets an A+ for their bathroom game.

There’s no doubt that Windy City Smokeout nailed the talent lineup, with a roster full of country music’s hottest acts right now. The weekend’s entertainment saw headliners Kacey Musgraves (Friday),  She’s Gone Country favourite -  Chris Young (Saturday) and Lee Brice (Sunday).

Supporting acts included another She’s Gone Country fave, the extremely talented and charming, Will Hoge (seriously, check him out – you don’t know what you’re missing!) Chris Stapleton - who’s newly exploded onto the country music scene thanks to his incredible songwriting skills, and lots of famous friends spreading the word.

A Thousand Horses, Jon Pardi, Dan + Shay,  Old Dominion, Jukebox Mafia, Turnpike Troubadors, Granger Smith and the Randy Rogers Band all performed at the festival as well.

The food was finger lickin’ good! How can you go wrong when you’ve got some of the city’s (and country’s) best BBQ?? Local favourites on hand included host Bub City BBQ, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Lillie's Q, Smoque and Chicago Q. Out of town vendors included Pappy's Smokehouse (St. Louis), The Salt Lick BBQ (Driftwood, Texas), Hogapalooza (Little Rock, Ark.), Ubons (Yazoo, Miss.) and Jack's New South (Braselton, Ga.).  If BBQ isn’t your thing (although I’m not sure I want to know you if it’s not…) other options available included The Market at Summer House, Crave Bar, Doughnut Vault, Supreme Lobster, La Colombe, and Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken! There really was something for everyone. The Windy City Smokeout also featured over 12 craft breweries.

Highlights:
-Bub City BBQ!!! I looooved my pulled pork nachos! YUM!
-The entertainment! Chris Young played an electrifying show – he had the crowd packed and they were putty in his hands. He performed many of his hits including his newest single that we’re loving, I'm Comin' Over. It was obvious Chris was a big draw for many in attendance! One lucky lady even had Chris participate in her proposal!!
-Will Hoge! The soulful singer-songwriter put on an incredible performance, and made light of the fact his bus broke down on the way - the band and all their gear crammed in a pickup truck to make the trip! Hoge had to borrow a pair of boots for his performance from the Turnpike Troubadors, admitting that the bus mix up left him with only flip flops for the show. Hoge proved to be a crowd favourite with fans sticking it out in the rain to take in his performance!
-Clean Bathrooms
-Valet parking – this was SO convenient and decently priced – way to go Windy City Smokeout!

We only wish we didn’t have to wait another year to attend again! With only two years under their belt – we’re excited to see what next year brings as they’ll only get better and better! Organizers will have a hard time topping this year’s event! Congratulations to all involved in this super fun, well organized event! We don't want to miss this one next year!
