The She’s Gone Country crew headed up to Bowmanville, Ontario on the evening of Friday, August 2nd for the 2nd Annual Boots and Hearts Festival. For those of you who don’t know (and are living under a rock) Boots and Hearts has quickly become the premiere country music festival in Canada, bringing together a weekend of some of the biggest stars country music has to offer. It was Day Two of the event, but Day One for us due to some weather issues on the Thursday night. The Canadian Country night looked like a ton of fun, despite the rain!
Friday night kicked off with Canada’s own Dean Brody taking the stage, performing his many hits – Bob Marley, Canadian Girls, Friday (we only wish Great Big Sea was there!) and the ever appropriate Dirt…er should we say mud – which was what we were all standing in for the show. Many concertgoers embraced the elements, creating a mudslide through the grass as Dean played.

With Brody’s set ending, the anticipation was palpable. The crowd eagerly awaited headliner Jason Aldean, hoping he’d take the stage before the weather turned for the worse. And Aldean didn’t disappoint, playing hit after hit – no filler songs here, from start to finish. The weather didn’t hold out and rain poured down through Aldean’s set but the crowd wasn’t going anywhere, sticking it out to the bitter end (although Aldean’ noticeably took cover on the stage for the rest of the performance, avoiding the catwalk and any subsequent fan interaction due to mother nature; but who could blame him?)
The rain, thunder and lightning continued through the night, and SGCountry was happy to have opted out of camping for the weekend. We’re sure many campers slept in water soaked tents Friday but we heard the party went all night long, so we doubt many people minded ;)
